Today, Isabelle Li of Singapore got
a silver medal in table tennis!
Good job, you have done Singapore
proud! Although Isabelle lost in the
finals to a Chinese 0-4, she did
displayed the fighting spirit that we
should adopt in our learning.
Once again, good job Isabelle!
Your great fighting spirit is greatly
appreciated by all Singaporeans!

Team Singapore lost out
to Haiti in the soccer
semi-finals. I was really
disappointed, but Team
Singapore did put up a
good fight. What made
me really agree was how
unsporting the Haitians
were. After scoring one
goal, in order to protect
their lead, they started
'act'. They fell when they
were not even pushed,
and rolled on the ground
just to waste more time
and for the match to end
earlier. We must bear in
mind never to adopt this
kind of unsporting
behaviour. Good try,
Team Singapore!

Hi all! The Youth Olympic
Games is ending in just 4
days! Some of you may
think what has the Games
got to do with language
arts? Well, I think that the
spirit displayed by the
athletes at the Games is
very vital for their success,
and that all students
should learn from these
athletes. Also, I think that
Singapore's success in
holding the Youth Olympic
Games is somewhat related
to J-Tigerr, especially the
'Global Perspective' value.
Tonight, Team Singapore
will be challenging Haiti
in soccer, be sure to give
them your support!

I have just watched Team Singapore
won Montenegro 3-2 in soccer in the
inaugural Youth Olympic Games! It
was overall a very exciting match.
However, what i thought was most
important was the spirit of Team
Singapore displayed during the match,
both by the players and the spectators.
I think that we should learn from the
players to have a good fighting spirit,
which is very important in our learning.
Congratulations Team Singapore, we
are supporting you all the way !

Hurray, the term three tests
are finally over! I can finally
have a good night sleep !
I have taken some of
my tests back. Sadly, the
scores are not really good. :(
However, failures are a part
and parcel of life. I just have
to learn from these mistakes
and improve! As for now,
time to take a short break.
Shortly after, it will be time
for the End Of Years! How

happy with our presentation.
However, as I saw the other
groups present , I thought that
they were excellent too. I really
thought that my group was
going to get knocked out. But,
the results of the finals judging

the grand finals! Hurray ! I really
hope my group can do as well in
the grand finals, but for now, it

Children in the Darkness

I have read the poem ' Children in the Darkness 'and will be
analysing it today. The poem ' Children in the Darkness '
was written in a very negative tone and it summarises the
bad effects of war, even on the young innocent children.
In the first stanza, the repetitive use of ' There are children in
the darkness ' emphasizes the bad influence of war on the
young children. they have not seen light and most likely never
will. ' Who someone will teach to fight ' shows that the children
had to participate in war at such a young age.

In the second stanza, ' Chalk and blackboards will not be ' and
' And these children are not free ' further reinforces the point
that war had caused the lost of freedom of these children, even
to an extent where they cannot be educated like other children.

In the third stanza, the repetitive questions reflects on the plight
of these poor innocent children, as they could not even have ' half
a chance ' and did not know how to read and dance.

In the fourth stanza, the author faces reality, that the children most
probably would not be given half a chance. Instead, ' a war would
consume them ' , and ' their life and their soul ' would be poured
' down some endless thirsty hole '.

In the last stanza, the writer's use of ' back into the darkness ' allows
the poem to go full circle, and it leaves the reader an impression that
the children would remain in the darkness, ' from which there in no
flight '.

1.) Point of View
This poem is written in a narrative point of view.

2.) Situation and Setting
The poem shows the pitiful situation the children
are in because of war. This is evident from the
line ' will a war consume them ', showing that the
children faced the threat of dying from war.
The poem takes place at a time where war is about
to begin, evident from the line ' who someone will
teach to fight '.

3.) Language/Diction
The language used in this poem in negative and
harsh, as can be seen ' life and blood be poured'
and ' back into the darkness '. The author uses
words such as ' consume them ' and ' body and
soul ' to emphasize the harsh influence of war on
the children.

4.) Personal Response
I feel that the author is sending an anti-war
message, that war causes much destruction to
people, and even innocent young children are not
spared. Thus, I think that war should be avoided
since it cause much destruction to all parties in the
war.

Good news - No lessons!
Bad news - My sabbatical is kinda boring =(
Anyway, the worst thing is that this year there is no ace for sabbaticals!
At least, that was what the teacher said.
I should have chosen another sabbatical, mine is really boring!
I cannot tell you what is it though, confidential!
Anyway, I cannot believe i paid $35 just to sit in the air con room and
not doing much things! Oh man! I should have chosen badminton
or something! Oh well. Once bitten twice shy. I had better choose

So, yea. Back to studies. Just took the Multiple Intelligence Test.
I found out that I am more Interpersonal and Spatial / Visual.
I think that the test is quite accurate, as I too think that I am more
Interpersonal and Spatial / Visual. I also think that the Multiple
Intelligence Test is quite meaningful, as it helps one to find out
more about their learning styles. This also helps one to study better
by using their preferred learning styles. Thus, I encourage schools
to carry out these tests more often.

Basically, for the whole of September and early October, I will only be doing one thing -- STUDYING!
Exams are round the corner, so from today onwards till the end of year examinations end, I have promised my parents not to play any more computer games. I am going to start practicing on my narrative writing, poem analysis, unseen prose etc.
Everyday once I have come home from school, I will first complete all my homework, and next, I would start practicing my writing. The only way to success is practice and practice and practice, period. Nothing more, nothing less. Practice makes perfect. Therefore, I am going to practice and practice and practice to get good results and make my parents proud. Wish everyone having the end of year examinations a very good luck. ALL THE BEST!

The book I have read is called " The Karate Kid ".
This book is about the main character named Daniel LaRusso. Daniel has moved from New Jersey to Reseda, California. There he met his true love, a girl named Ali Mills. However, Daniel has already made an enemy in school. Johnny, Ali's ex, is the toughest guy in school. He is a Karate black belt. The only way to defeat Johnny was to learn Karate too.
The handyman, Mr Miyagi, eventually teaches Daniel Karate. He helped to save Daniel from Johnny's beating for 3 months - in return, he has to take part in the All Valley Championship with Johnny.
At the end of the story, Daniel defeats Johnny in the championship.
I think this book is fun and interesting. Most importantly, I think this book is suitable for all walks of life. If u have some leisure time at home, why not go to the library to borrow this book? I recommend it for everyone to read.

The song I have chosen is ' Live Your Life ' by T.I featuring Rihanna.
the lyrics of this song is as follows:

[Rihanna:]
You're gonna be a shining star, with fancy clothes, fancy car-ars.
And then you'll see, you're gonna go far.
Cause everyone knows, just who you are-are.
So live your life, ay ay ay.
You steady chasing that paper.
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
Ain't got no time for no haters.
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
No telling where it'll take you.
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
Cause I'm a paper chaser.
Just living my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
Just living my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)

[T.I.:]
Never mind what haters say, ignore them 'til they fade away.
Amazing they ungrateful for after all the games I gave away.
Safe to say I paved the way, for you cats to get paid today.
You still be wasting days away, nah had I never saved the day.
Consider them my protégé, homage I think they should pay.
Instead of being gracious, they violate in a major way.
I never been a hater still I love them, In a crazy way.
Some say they sold the yay and no they couldn't even work on Labor day.
It ain't that black and white, it has an area that's shaded grey.
I'm Westside anyway, even if I left today and stayed away.
Some move away to make a way not move away cause they afraid.
I brought back to the hood and all you ever did was take away.
I pray for patience but they make me wanna melt their face away.
Like I once made them spray, now I could make them plead their case away.
Been thuggin' all my life, can't say I don't deserve to take a break.
If you ever see me catch a case, and watch my future fade away.

[Rihanna:]
You're gonna be a shining star, with fancy clothes, fancy car-ars.
And then you'll see, you're gonna go far.
Cause everyone knows, who you are-are.
So live your life, ay ay ay.
You steady chasing that paper.
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
Ain't got no time for no haters
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
No telling where it'll take you.
Just live your life (Oh!), ay ay ay.
Cause I'm a paper chaser.
Just living my life.

[T.I.:]
I'm the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished with the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid.
Allergic to the counterfeit, impartial to the politics.
Articulate but still would grab a nigga by the collar quick.
Whoever having problems with, their record sales just holla tip.
If that don't work and all else fails, then turn around and follow tip.
I got love for the game but ay I'm not in love with all of it.
I do without the fame and the rappers nowadays are comedy.
The hootin' and the hollerin', back and forth with the arguing.
Where you from, who you know, what you make and what kind of car you in.
Seems as though you lost sight of what's important with the positive.
And checks until your bank account and you up out of poverty.
Your values is a disarrayed, prioritizing horribly.
Unhappy with the riches cause your piss poor morally.
Ignoring all prior advice and fore warning.
And we mighty full of ourselves all of a sudden aren't we?

Just living my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)
Just living my life (ay), my life (oh), my life (ay), my life (oh)

So live your life.

The main reason why I chose this song its because, as the title reads, Live Your Life. Exactly. I just want to live my life and not bother so much about stuff. Perhaps I really cant be bothered about some things. but yea, I just want to live my life.

In the 1st verse "You're gonna be a shining star, with fancy clothes, fancy car-ars.
And then you'll see, you're gonna go far.
Cause everyone knows, just who you are-are" really caught my attention. Because my dream when I become an adult is to become a star, a super star. To have fancy clothes and cars, and be famous for people to look up to. So, after reading the 1st verse, I really thought to myself "This is my song!"
"You steady chasing that paper" means chasing that dream, and I am really chasing my dream to become a star. Well I've tried singing, but... well.... it still needs lots of practice!
Sometimes, I'll also try to mimic the stars and walk like how they do, "immaculately polished with the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid."
"Never mind what haters say, ignore them 'til they fade away." also depicts the personality of mine " optimistic", ignoring people who hates me for any particular reason.
This song, even though there are some unpleasant language used, really shows who I am and who I want to be. Here's and advice for you. "just LIVE YOUR LIFE!"

Parents' Comments : unleash your hidden potential, be happy and achieve your goals in life. Just do it!

Comfortable Bed

He was big and fat
He wore a very long hat
He had a big strong leg
And I hugged it all night

He had two layers of skin
I slept right in the middle
Sometimes I hugged his shin
He was as fit as a fiddle

When I felt so sleepy
He held me tight in his arms
I fell asleep so quickly
He never does me harm

Tom Beatty - Both Tom Beatty and Rocking Horse Winner are about gambling. Tom Beatty says that everyone has 70 years. In contrast, Paul in Rocking Horse Winner died very young. He was actually not to live to be an old man as he would be able to whine about his losses, like Tom Beatty.
The Green Clothes - In both The Green Clothes and Paper, the earnings of the main characters were lost in the end. In Paper, Tay Soon and his wife did not sell their stocks even though they had earned a lot of money, believing the stocks would continue to increase. Both shows how their greed leads them to their downfall in the end.
One-Dollar Gambler - In One-Dollar Gambler and Lottery, both characters started with a little money and gambled their money away in the end. Both shows how gambling lead them to losing their hard-earned money.

&zanlimwas}here:)
{7:36 PM,♥}

1. Paper
The title refers to the paper gain Tay Soon and his wife made, the piece of prayer paper and the beautiful paper house for Tay Soon. Tay Soon made a gamble. He thought the stocks would continue to increase. This led to his downfall. In the end, Tay Soon got a beautiful paper house for him after he dies.
2. Lottery
Ah Boh is a bad gambler who gambles on almost everything - 4D, Toto and even horse racing. She opened a Post Office Savings Account but this did not stop Ah Boh from gambling. Her daily routine was to go to the lottery every evening. Her dream was to have overnight wealth, and she always thought to herself that the day she would hit the right numbers was coming soon. She was very superstitious in many ways - she thought that by interpreting her dreams, she would get the right number, she weighed the author's cat to get a number and she believed that new born babies and newly weds were signs of good luck. Every time there were accidents, she would record down the license plate number of the car. In the end, when she rushed out to record the license plate number of a car, she realised that the person who got killed in the accident was her mother. Gambling harms not only you but your whole family.
3. Rocking Horse Winner
The person responsible for the death of Paul was his parents. They knew that they were short of money but they could not give up the social position which they had to keep up. They spent money on unnecessary things and believed that luck was the source of money. His mother taught Paul what luck was and that she and her husband were very unlucky. Paul thought of ways and means to bring luck to the family. This caused him to be so obsessed in winning in horse races as he wanted to prove to his mother that he was lucky. He has told his mother before that he was lucky and about him knowing the winner of horse races but his mother denied that he had told her this before. This ultimately caused Paul's death.

The Son is in Secondary School by Affran Sa’at

My badge has a Latin motto
Hope for the future
The future is hope
Or something
At times black crows try to interrupt
When we sing the
National Anthem
It is difficult to maintain
The whiteness of my shoes
Especially on Wednesdays
I must admit there is something quite special
About the bare thighs of hardworking scouts
The Malay chauffeurs
Who wait for my schoolmates
Sit on the car park kerb
Telling jokes to one another
Seven to the power of five is unreasonable
On Chinese New Year
Mrs Lee dressed up
In a sarong kebaya
And sang Bengawan Solo
The capital of Singapore is Singapore
My best friend did a heroic thing once
Shaded all A’s
For his Chinese Language Multiple-choice paper
In our annual yearbook
There is a photograph of me
Pushing a wheelchair and smiling
They caught me
At the exact moment
When my eyes were actually closed

This poem describes the how the writer feels about his primary school life. It shows that he misses his primary school life a lot and reminiscence on it still even after so many years have passed. It does not have any rhymes. It is a well-written poem and I like it very much as it makes the readers think back on their own primary school life.

Those Good Days

I stepped on the stair
And breathed in the air
Of school
And books and teachers and my friend who was a fool

Recess came
Some found it lame
I took my wallet and football
And accidentally trip and fall

Tables aligned
Homework assigned
We sat at our seats
Finishing our leftover meats

The school bell rang
Everyone ran
Knocking down chairs
Letting a loud 'bang!'

I walked out
And saw Mdm Lout
Scolding students
Who failed to submit assignments

Oh those good days
Where when I woke up there were sun rays
Signaling the start
Of another day to work hard

Oh those good days
Where mum always says
When you grow up
Would you miss oh this good old days

The poet I have chosen is Ezra Pound. The reason why I chose this poet is because all of his poems makes me feel like I am the main character in the poem and he has the skill to bring the poems 'to life'.
After doing my research, I feel that Ezra Pound is a great poet. I will be talking about why I feel so and about this amazing poet's background.
Ezra Pound was born in Hailey, Idaho, in 1885. He completed two years of college at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a degree from Hamilton College in 1905. After teaching at Wabash College for two years, he travelled abroad to Spain, Italy and London, where, as the literary executor of the scholar Ernest Fenellosa, he became interested in Japanese and Chinese poetry.
He became a London editor of the Little Review in 1917. In 1924, he moved to Italy; during this period of voluntary exile, he became involved in Fascist politics, and did not return to the United States until 1945, when he was arrested on charges of treason for broadcasting Fascist propaganda by radio to the United States during the Second World War.
In 1946, he was acquitted, but declared mentally ill and committed to St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C. During his confinement, the jury of the Bollingen-Library of Congress Award (which included

a number of the most eminent writers of the time) decided to overlook his political career in the interest of recognizing his poetic achievements, and awarded him the prize for the Pisan Cantos (1948). After continuous appeals from writers won his release from the hospital in 1958, he returned to Italy and settled in Venice, where he died, a semi-recluse, in 1972.

Here are some of his great works:

1. Ancient Music
Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm.
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

2.
Dance Figure

Dark-eyed,
O woman of my dreams,
Ivory sandalled,
There is none like thee among the dancers,
None with swift feet.
I have not found thee in the tents,
In the broken darkness.
I have not found thee at the well-head
Among the women with pitchers.
Thine arms are as a young sapling under the bark;
Thy face as a river with lights.

White as an almond are thy shoulders;
As new almonds stripped from the husk.
They guard thee not with eunuchs;
Not with bars of copper.

Gilt turquoise and silver are in the place of thy rest.
A brown robe, with threads of gold woven in
patterns, hast thou gathered about thee,
O Nathat-Ikanaie, 'Tree-at-the-river'.

As a rillet among the sedge are thy hands upon me;
Thy fingers a frosted stream.

Thy maidens are white like pebbles;
Their music about thee!

There is none like thee among the dancers;
None with swift feet.

3. The Tree

I stood still and was a tree amid the wood,
Knowing the truth of things unseen before;
Of Daphne and the laurel bow
And that god-feasting couple old
that grew elm-oak amid the wold.
'Twas not until the gods had been
Kindly entreated, and been brought within
Unto the hearth of their heart's
home
That they might do this wonder thing;
Nathless I have been a tree amid the wood
And many a new thing understood
That was rank folly to my head before.

Ezra Pound has passed away, but his poems shall never be forgotten.

A Girl by Ezra Pound

The tree has entered my hands,
The sap has ascended my arms,
The tree has grown in my breast-
Downward,
The branches grow out of me, like arms.

Tree you are,
Moss you are,
You are violets with wind above them.
A child - so high - you are,
And all this is folly to the world.

1.A personification is used in this poem.
The writer writes in a way that makes the tree feel like human.

2.I like this poem because of the way the writer describes the tree.
It makes the tree feel very real and human-like.
This writer also makes me feel like I am the girl and I can imagine whats happening.
He makes this poem 'go to life'.
That is why i picked this poem and like it so much.

I have read a book and want to share it with everyone. The title of this book is 'Foundation & Empire' by Isaac Azimov. This book is the second volume of the Foundation Series. So far this is the only book I have read in the Foundation Series.

This book is about the main character Hari Seldon who foresaw the current conditions of the galaxy and the fall of the Empire. In an effort to lessen the time of barbarism that is sure to follow the fall of the Empire, Hari Seldon created two Foundations - one at each end of the galaxy. The idea was that the two would mesh to form an even stronger foundation, known as - the Second Foundation. The story begins with a battle between the Empire and the Foundation. Bel Riose of the Empire is a soldier who is only happy fighting for the Empire. In the current time of peace, he goes to the outer limits of the Galaxy in search of worlds to conquer.

I think that this is an interesting book with lots of action and a twist at the end. I recommend this book to all readers.

With at least 20 pairs of eyes staring at you, can you not be nervous? Thats the situation while playing a badminton match. I had sort of a phobia at times. I am always nervous and under a lot of pressure playing in badminton competitions, especially if the match i am playing is the decider, if i win the game, our team wins, if not, the whole team loses. Seeing disappointed faces from my coach, teammates and teacher-in-charge after a lost was unbearable. However, during a match, you win and you lose. Soon, I was gradually getting rid of the phobia.
During competitions, we have to leave our classes earlier(around 12) to eat and warm up for our match. This would result in missing of lessons, which does us no good at all. Sometimes I wished competitions starts a little earlier, to avoid missing of lessons. But then again, I would reach home later and have less time to do my homework.
Besides that, I would have loads of training before competition begins. I would have little time to do my homework as I would reach home quite late(probably around 7). However, these hard work do pay off.
Our badminton team got 3rd in the west-zone and had got into top 8 in nationals, which never happened in our school's badminton history before(that is, in 90 years). Our teacher-in-charge even agreed to threat the badminton team to japanese food for this achievement.
There are goods and bads in badminton, in all kinds of sports. If I had the ability to turn back time and not learn badminton, I would still prefer to learn badminton. Its the passion for badminton which pushes me forward. If you had the abilty to turn back time to change things, would you?

Dear all,
Basically starting up a blog was not very easy. It took me more than a day to start up a blog. Maintaining my blog was not that easy as I have never blogged before. It took me quite a while to get used to how to use it. Writing on my blog was not a problem.
What I like about my blog is that it is simple and easy to use. I can also add images to it. However, what I dislike about my blog is that it looks very common and lacks creativity. I will try and improve my blog until it looks unique and creative.
Well I think this whole process of creating a blog was quite nice. However, I think that this whole process could be improved further. It would be better if I learnt how to blog before this so starting, maintaining and writing on the blog would be much easier. Also, I think that if I had listened more attentively in class, I would not have to ask others for help in blogging.
I think my reading habits and electronic bookshelf is not good enough. I will work harder to improve on that.

There are a few connections between a graphic and a narrative novel. One connection is that both of them tells a story. A graphic novel tells a story in a pictorial form while a narrative novel tells a story in text form.
Anyway, my top three learning preferences are: kinaesthetic, interpersonal and musical.

Basically, the reason why I did such a thing to Miss Narwin is because of 'track'. Track is everything to me, and because she gave me a D for my English, I did not reach the requirement to go into the track team. This really made me mad. I hate Miss Narwin for giving me a D grade. That is why I did it to her. Coach Jamison did not let me get into the track team just because Miss Narwin gave me a D grade for English.
I do not feel sorry for her. She deserved all this. I really hopes she gets fired. I hate her!

I usually read books on a monthly basis. Every month I will finish reading a book. I read books like those written by Roald Dahl, Artemis Fowl and famous books like Harry Potter.
Usually, i would also read newspapers everyday after i have done my homework. I read newspapers to understand what's happening in the world.
This is basically my reading habits. If I had no homework and had alot of time, I would read as many books as I can. Really hope my teachers can give less homework so I can read more books.

On my 1st few days of school, I felt like a P1 student just entering primary school. I was new to my surroundings and occasionaly lost my way as the school campus was really big. Starting of as a Sec 1, I felt like a newbie again-a feeling I have not felt in 6 years..
Fortunately, having a brother in my school I felt a little more comfortable in my new school. I chose badminton as my CCA and am in the badminton school team. Having made new friends, I am  starting to like my new school. I hereby wish all Sec1s a good year ahead and hope all Sec1s make new friends like me.
